Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about volunteering with HVCC.

Do I need to sign up in advance?

No! Just show up at the posted location on Sunday at 10 AM. No registration, RSVP, or commitment required. Come once or come every week — whatever works for you.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself, comfortable shoes, and a water bottle. We provide trash bags, gloves, high-visibility safety vests, and grabber tools. On sunny days, bring sunscreen and a hat.

Is it safe?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-visibility vests for all volunteers and coordinate with local highway departments when working near busy roads. We always have a safety briefing before each cleanup and work in teams. Volunteers should never enter traffic lanes.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes! Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. We recommend ages 10 and up for roadside cleanups, but younger kids can participate on trail and park cleanups.

How long do cleanups last?

Typically 1 to 2 hours, but there is no minimum time commitment. Stay for 20 minutes or the full cleanup — every bit helps. Some volunteers come for the whole morning, others just pop by for a quick hour.

Where do you clean?

We rotate locations each week across the Hudson Valley, including Cornwall, Newburgh, New Windsor, the Highlands, Beacon, and Cold Spring. Follow us on social media or check our events page for this week’s location.

Is HVCC a nonprofit?

Yes! Hudson Valley Cleanup Crew is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

I want to organize a cleanup in my area. Can you help?

Absolutely! We love helping new cleanup crews get started. We can provide supplies, share our organizational tips, and even help promote your events. Contact us to get started.
